From Alaska to the Amazon, forests are being clearcut and wildlife exterminated. We protect U.S. national forests, the Amazon rainforest and its native peoples.

Human Interest Story

Save America's Forests is fighting to protect the largest trees on earth, the Giant Sequoias, and the most biologically diverse forests on earth. The world's leading scientists, including Dr. Jane Goodall and Dr. E.O. Wilson, have attended the U.S. Congress to support our plan to protect our nation's Ancient Forests, including the Sequoias, and end clearcutting of our public lands.

The most biodiverse forest in the world--Yasuni Rainforest in Ecuador--is threatened by destructive oil development. In March of 2005, the Petrobras oil company began building an oil road towards Yasuni National Park. Save America's Forests created an international coalition, including the indigenous hunter-gatherers, the Huaorani, to stop the Petrobras road from entering Yasuni.

In May of 2005, we arranged meetings in Washington, D.C. for Huaorani leaders with members of the U.S. Congress, to protest the destructive oil development in Yasuni! We wrote a letter signed by the world's leading scientists opposing the Petrobras road, and submitted it to the President of Ecuador. We took legal actions. In March of 2006, Petrobras wrote us that they had given up their plans to build the road into Yasuni. Our campaign succeeded!
