Helping traumatized children, conducting sports evangelism/discipleship programs, training leaders, providing food/programs/equipment for underprivileged youth/slum children in Africa, Latin America, and U.S.

In August, 2006 while taking a walking tour of a slum where SOI conducts sports ministry, feeding programs and discipleship training, my co-worker, Mitch, introduced me to a group of five abandoned street boys - ages 7-11. Andy, their leader, was bragging how good they had it scratching out a living stealing food and sleeping in a corner of a porno movie house. We encouraged the boys to come join the SOI staff at the nearby field for food and fellowship and said that we would help them find a safer, better place to live. We even told them they could bring their dog so that it might have a better life! Andy waved us off and led his gang back into the streets. I left Kampala the next day not knowing what happened to those boys.

April, 2008, back in Kampala again working with Mitch, we went to a boarding school to visit some of the children who receive tuition support through Sports Outreach. As I entered the campus I heard my name called out and saw a boy running towards me. It was Andy! Mitch had gone back into the streets and found Andy's gang, convinced them to come with him and placed them in more appropriate housing under the supervision of Sports Outreach Good News Team staff. Due to his age and ability Andy was given a scholarship to the boarding school and he looked great!—tangible evidence of how Sports Outreach is changing lives.
