Chelsie Cox has many reasons to smile. An active member of Girls Incorporated of Central Alabama for 14 years, a Girls Inc. National Scholar, and a college freshman studying pediatric nursing, Chelsie has a bright future ahead. The lessons Chelsie learned at Girls Inc. played an important role in giving her the self-confidence to pursue her dreams. As Chelsie puts it, "Girls Inc. has taught me and hundreds of other girls that we can be successful in life and that we are special and have worth." In 2007, Girls Inc. reached over 900,000 girls, through our programs, website and advocacy efforts. Financial support from our donors allows Girls Inc. to provide programs focused on science, math, and technology, health and sexuality, economic and financial literacy, sports skills, leadership and advocacy, and media literacy for girls ages 6 to 18 throughout the United States and in Canada. For Chelsie, it was Girls Inc. Preventing Adolescent Pregnancy® that had the greatest impact on her life. The result of a teen pregnancy, Chelsie wanted to keep herself on a career track, learning from her mother's hardships. While she was subjected to the same peer pressures and media influences that all girls struggle to resist today, with support and guidance from both her mother and Girls Inc., Chelsie was able to achieved her goals. We hope that you will be moved to help us continue to empower girls.
